As part of our goal to encourage you to be kind to yourself, we offer a massage service by Michael, our massage therapist.

As Pure Turtle's work has a focus on mental health, so too has Michael's massage. Michael has developed a style of massage that is both deeply relaxing as well as psychologically and emotionally freeing.

The techniques Michael uses will free tension from both your muscles and your mind. Clients with anxiety/depression/restless minds often notice how peaceful their mind is after a massage with Michael.

He is extremely empathetic and adapts his massage to his client's needs as he works, often changing his style, depth of pressure, or speed in harmony with his client's body. This is amplified with repeat clients as he gets to know them and their bodies and each massage has a longer-lasting effect than the last.

As well as being a deeply relaxing experience, regular massage has many other health benefits.

These include reducing stress, improved sleep, increased energy, and stronger immune and digestive systems. Massage can be a stand-alone treatment as well as combining it with hypnotherapy, psychotherapy or meditation as part of your self-care routine.

Michael has a Diploma in Swedish Body Massage and Thai Seated Chair Massage. He is frequently complimented on his natural technique and instinct for understanding and adapting pressure.

Massages take place at The Pod.

What clients have said:

"Walking on air after my hour full body massage I just had. Mike was punctual and professional. The massage was amazing with the perfect amount of pressure. Lovely relaxing music, couldn't fault the experience at all and will definitely be re-booking."

"Mike was very professional (all certificates and insurance documents were available for me to see). He communicated clearly and promptly when booking the appointment. He arrived well prepared and was quick to set up his equipment. Throughout the treatment Mike put me at ease, he regularly asked if I was happy with how the massage was and was keen for me to be honest and give instant feedback so he could adapt his style to suit my needs(focusing on problem areas)"

"The treatment was incredibly relaxing. Mike ensured he informed me what area he was going to work on next and ensured I was kept warm and comfortable at all times! The massage oil used was really lovely, it smelt gorgeous and my skin feels super soft as a result. Will definitely book in again. Totally relaxed mentally and physically. Thank you"

"Just had my first massage with Michael and it was AMAZING, he really listened to how I like it and made me feel comfortable and relaxed. Can’t wait to book in again.. would highly recommend!"

Massage FAQ's

  • What happens during a massage?

On arrival, Michael will take you through to the massage room. There he will take you through the massage stage by stage explaining the techniques used, and how the massage will progress. If you haven't already, you'll need to fill out a medical form for insurance purposes, but this is only needed the first time. Before the massage starts Michael will discuss with you any physical complaints you have so he knows where to target his work.

  • How early should I arrive for my massage?

New clients should arrive 10 minutes prior to their massage to fill out paperwork and meet with Michael prior to their treatment.  Returning clients should arrive 5 minutes prior to their session.

  • Do I have to be completely undressed?

You should undress to the level you are comfortable with. For a full body massage, most get completely undressed. However, if you will be more comfortable during the session by leaving your underwear on, that is fine. Michael will work around the clothes you left on as best as he can. Michael will step out of the room to give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the table.

  • Will I be covered up the whole time?

Yes, at The Pod you'll always be covered. Once you are undressed and on the table under the drape, Michael will only uncover the part of your body being worked on. Private areas are always covered and Michael is trained to move the drape in a way to ensure your modesty is always covered. If Michael is going to work on a woman’s abdomen, a second sheet will be used to cover the breasts so the main sheet can be moved to expose the abdomen.

  • Can I choose a part of me not to be massaged?

YES, Absolutely. It is your massage, if you have ticklish feet and you do not want them massaged then please say so. Likewise, for any area you do not wish Michael to massage. This can be discussed in your pre-massage chat.

  • What do I do during a massage treatment?

Make yourself comfortable. If Michael wants you to adjust your position, he will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable.

Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It’s up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

  • Can I talk during my session?

Yes, if you’d like to talk go right ahead. The important thing to remember is that this treatment is all about you relaxing and enjoying the experience.

In many instances, people may feel more relaxed starting off talking, and as the massage progresses, enter quiet states of relaxation.

Also, let him know if you get too warm or too cold, if the room is too bright, or if the pressure needs to be changed (lighter or deeper). If something is not working for you, speak up! It’s OK!

  • Will the massage hurt?

This depends on the type of massage and the depth of the strokes. A light, relaxing massage that does not probe very deep into the muscles, should not hurt. With that being said, there is a ‘feels good’ hurt and an ‘ouch, stop it’ hurt. A good massage, even a really deep tissue massage, should always stay in the ‘feels good’ hurt range.

Pain can be an indication that the muscle is possibly injured or inflamed and pressure should be adjusted. Also, pain can cause you to tighten up and negate the relaxing effects of the massage. The most effective and deepest massage always works with your body’s natural response, not against it.

  • How often should I get a massage?

“Something is better than nothing.” What does that mean? Well, it varies from person to person. If you are just looking for some occasional relaxation, then a session every 2-4 weeks may be fine for you. However, if you are looking to address a specific condition, then it is recommended to go more frequently at first and then slowly taper down to a maintenance schedule. Sometimes more frequent 60-minute sessions can be effective until your goals are met and a maintenance schedule is in place.

The frequency of sessions should be discussed with Michael after your treatment when he has a better hands-on understanding of your particular muscular issues.

  • How will I feel after my massage treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience a significant decrease or freedom from long-term aches and pains. Many feel a little slowed down for a short period and then notice an increase of energy, heightened awareness and increased productivity which can last for days.

If you received a deep massage, you may be slightly sore the next day – much like a good workout at the gym. Sometimes a hot shower or a soak in the tub can ease this soreness.

After your session, you should increase your water intake. Just a glass or two more than normal is usually fine. This helps keep your body’s tissues hydrated and healthy.
